Shahbaz takes notice of fresh cough syrup deaths

GUJRANWALA: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice on Friday of the lives claimed by the overdose of the Tyno cough syrup and instructed Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health, Khwaja Salman Rafiq, to head to Gujranwala to monitor the situation and submit immediately a report on it, DawnNews reported.

Three people, all from Gujranwala, died of overdosing on the cough medicine on Friday bringing the death toll during the past 48 hours to 18.

Fifteen people had died of overdosing on the cough Syrup yesterday.

Hospital sources said most victims were young drug addicts and consumed the cough syrup to get intoxicated.

The arrival of new cases has highlighted the availability of the syrup in the province without prescription despite the deaths in Lahore from its consumption last month.

Earlier in November, 19 people had lost their lives due to an overdose of the ‘spurious’ cough syrup.

Inquiries into last month’s  syrup deaths had ‘come to a grinding halt’, as the mafia responsible for these deaths had destroyed the ‘spurious’ cough syrup distributed under batch No 5552.

Allegedly intoxicating syrup kills 10

GUJRANWALA: Allegedly intoxicating syrup has killed four persons in the past four days in Gujranwala while five more admitted to the hospital in critical condition Friday, Geo News reported.

According to Medical Superintendent of District Head Quarter Hospital Dr Anwar Amanullah, sixteen people from different areas were brought to the hospital in critical condition who had consumed the intoxicating syrup and tablets in excessive quantity.

Ten out of sixteen sick men died including the former naib nazim of Nadipur Town Chaudhry Irfan.

On the other hand, five patients have been shifted to Lahore in serious condition.

Toxic cough syrup claims 17 lives in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The death toll on account of use of toxic cough syrup has risen to 17 in Gujranwala, as two more people died on Friday,.

More than thirty people were shifted to District Hospital Gujranwala after consuming the poisonous cough syrup. Out of which, eleven patients were rushed to Lahore’s Meo Hospital for emergency treatment. However, two of them could not survive.

The deceased include Nandi Pur’s former Naib Nazim Irfan Latif, Munir, Bilal, Irfan, Saeed, Arshad, Mubashar, Wasim, Yousuf, Shafiq, Muhammad Zahid, Rafique and Allah Wasaya. Other victim’s identity was not confirmed.

On the other hand, Punjab government has vowed to take stern action against the company owners and others responsible for the incident but no arrest has been made so far.

The scandal comes after more than 15 died in November in Lahore, Pakistan’s second largest city, after taking a toxic cough syrup ‘known as  Tyno’. A forensic report confirmed that the victims were drug addicts.

Better to die of cough than cough syrup

How shocking and choking is the news to read that people die after taking cough syrup and this is not the 1st time rather

second time when people died after taking cough syrup. The present news is that in Gujranwala many people who took ‘Tyno’ which is cough syrup have been so badly affected that some of them have already died while others are critically ill and admitted in hospitals for necessary treatment. Earlier also it happened when quite a good number of people died in Lahore after drinking another cough syrup and hardly we have forgotten that bad instance this new problem has cropped up which is very much shocking indeed. Cough syrup which is believed to be the right medicine for those who have cough must recover from the disease but very much surprisingly people are dying instead which is not only too annoying but very much shocking too.

It is quite but natural that as and when someone falls sick then he or she goes to consult a doctor and take necessary treatment to recover from the ailment which includes cough also. Cough syrup is the most popular and commonly accepted practice and though there are cough tablets also but yet generally speaking it is the syrup and not the tablet which patients opt and there had been no complaints against cough syrup. However, if such like killing syrup given to cough patients have killed some people instantly while many others are admitted in hospital and fighting for their lives I think under the given situation it is better for the patients to die off cough itself rather than die after taking the so called cough syrup and the reason s very simple that one will take quite long to die of cough but in case of cough syrup the chances of dying instantly are the brightest possible. Who does not want to live longer life? Why not to live longer with cough because life is given one and one time only rather than dying instantly but drinking such cough syrup?

Which one to choose-die of cough or die with cough syrup?
