UN must act against Sri
Lankan war Crimes!
-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL
_______________
Every
nation, especially the terrocracies killing humans with the weapons they buy
from foreign markets on resources that belong to people, justifies state
murders, fro whatever reasons, as legitimate ones. .
World
bodies like the UN, UNSC, ICJ and International Criminal Court, standing or
hiding behind the big powers led by USA-UK twins, watch state murders as a
routine legalized war on people. This act of roguism on the part of world
powers and international bodies encourages the state military to attack and
kill people at will.
South Asia
perhaps leads state terror index in Asia. While India and Pakistan keep killing
their own citizens just by calling them terrorists, Bangladesh is not legging
behind in its monstrous attitude towards its own people.
Sri Lankan
military, taking full advantage of global terror war launched by
Pentagon-CIA twins on Islam and humanity, has launched a
deadly war on its Tamil population , ostensibly to end LTTE
terrorism, killing Tamils as freely as jungle beasts do. .
The
killing of surrendering rebels amounts to war crimes by the state, howsoever
big or important the nation that commits them could be. . The
UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva has been selective in issues ( it
hardly thinks Israel ever attacked Palestinians or killed them) But
UNHRC is targeting Sri Lanka for its genocides of Tamils (LTTE ) in
the country.
Washington
keeps up its pressure on Sri Lanka to drop its ties to China, which has become
a major supplier of military hardware to the island nation, loans and aid to
President Mahinda Rajapakse’s government.
The USA
has declared that it will present a resolution on Sri Lanka, for the third year
in a row, calling for a probe into human rights violations.
Washington
had fully backed the Rajapakse government when it tore up a ceasefire agreement
with the LTTE and renewed military offensives in 2006. It provided vital
military assistance to the Sri Lankan army and remained silent amid mounting
evidence of its atrocities.
The USA
and its European and partners are also directly responsible for these
atrocities, and are now exploiting them purely for their own geo-strategic
purposes.
Now
in aid to US effort to bully Colombo, the Australian-based International
Crimes Evidence Project (ICEP) has provided new evidence of the Sri Lankan
government’s war crimes during the final months of its military offensive
against the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in May 2009.
The report
contains damning evidence of the killings of surrendering LTTE leaders. the
ICEP report sheds further light on the killings of the LTTE’s political wing
leaders, Balasingham Mahendran (Nadesan) and Seevaratnam Pulidevan (Pulidevan),
a LTTE military commander, Colonel Thambirasa Thurairasingam (Ramesh), LTTE
news reader, Isaipriya and Balachandran, the 12-year-old son of LTTE leader V.
Prabhakaran..
The
report concludes: “There are reasonable grounds to suspect one or more SFs
soldiers committed the war crime of murder by killing Balachandran who was a
civilian, taking no active part in hostilities when he was allegedly in SFs
custody at the time of his death.”
The
Rajapakse regime repeatedly denied that any war crimes were committed without
offering any substantiation, the Sri Lankan military which conducted the
ghastly attack also rejected the report as baseless..
Colombo
regime deliberately denied any chance for peace by allowing the Tamils to
surrender and join the mainstream as they wanted and Rajapakse wanted to commit
deadly massacre spree to ruthlessly kill the Tamils on an understanding with
Indian regime.
The UN
report basing on the UN Human Rights Council said
the readiness of the two LTTE leaders to surrender was notified to the UN, the
International Committee of the Red Cross and the governments of Norway, the UK
and the US. But both were shot dead by the Sri Lanka army. The ICEP report
collected new eyewitness accounts of the surrender by leaders one by one.
India
encouraged Tamils in Sri Lanka to seek separate nation and, later, supported
the Colombo regime in killing the Tamils. Tamils have a state in India, called
now as Tamil Nadu. .
It is not
just human rights violation but gravest possible crime
against humanity, Sri Lanka wanted peace on its own terms, but later
wanted blood shod of Tamils on its own terror plan.
An
independent and comprehensive international investigation is needed into these
alleged violations of international war.
There
should be some firm control over the state murders in any nation in future and
no regime should be empowered to kill people, its own or other others, as its
prerogative. .
