Dear everyone, below is an interesting note written by a member of given forum, from where I have picked it. I have just corrected some spellings, otherwise am producing it exactly as written by the gentleman. Since almost everyone has interest in his holiness Mr. Asif Ali Zardari related news therefore this is an interesting story behind the shady Mirage 2000 deal. Mods! Hope that this may be an appropriate thread though the subject matter is old and involves Zardari and his role in PAF deals.
I am quite aware of the shady deal he tried to complete during the 1990s tenure of Benazir's Prime Ministership. Many other friends may also know the trails of these criminals and support me.
After the Peacegate Program was abruptly stopped thanks to the Indian Agent Sen. Larry Pressler, Zardari approached Dassault to buy Mirage 2000-5 to replace the lost F-16s. He assured Dassault that he could finish a deal for 32 Mirage 2000-5 for almost $4 Billion if Dassault would pay him through his offshore company a commission of 5% or over $200 Million.
Dassault was aware of Zardari's relationship with Bhutto and willing to do the deal but was weary of French anti-bribery regulations. They approached the French Government who found a loop hole to consummate the deal. Besides Dassault, Senecma and Thomsan CSF were supposed to share in the payoff.
Fortunately just as the Contract was to be signed, Benazir's Government fell so did the deal.
So whenever I think about the criminal Zardari, I shudder. People like him should never be allowed even close to these deals. |

AOA Sir, If the deal would have gone through it would have been very expensive Zardari and BiBi were playing both sides she was working on this deal sitting in side pakistan and he was working the deal from the other side.
At 6 Am in the morning a yellow Mercedes came to our house in chaklala 2 men came out very smartly dressed and asked me that they wanted to talk to my father who was at that time Joint Sec Min of Def. My father came out and they gave him a card which only had Zadari's name and on the other side it said met me at 7pm in Marroit . My father went and met him.
The day before that my father took the Mirage file to BIBI to get it signed and she threw the file on the floor saying I dont want to see this file again in my office. Mazhar Alam who was her sec picked the file up from the floor and gave it to my father saying Sir I am sorry.
My father came back to the Min of Def and these guys show up the very next morning.
Zardari was very straight my father told me, Zardari said there is a mirage file in your office and you are dealing with it my father said yes I am and he said increase the price of every mirage 10 million per plane and my father said I cannot do that and the meeting went on and finally my father walked away with all his threats. The very next morning BiBi calls him and asks him that I am waiting for that Mirage file for the last 1 month please bring it to me and my father said It was in your office and you threw it away and she says well bring it. My father took the file without changing the numbers she saw the file and said the price is wrong and he said no the price is right and she said can you step out of my office for 5 min and I will call you back. After about 15 min she called him in and said that change the numbers and bring it back my father said no I will not do it and then she says Ok you can go, the file was send to the CAS with a letter attached of what all happened. Luckily it took PAF sometime to think over it and the file kept going up and down by that time BiBi and her husband had too many charges of Corruption and she was dismissed from her post and the Mirage deal never went through.
