A Brief Summary For Non-Urdu Readers
This column is about killing of about 80 innocent students of an Islamic school in Bajour, Pakistan. Government claims that it has killed 80 terrorists, but the very next day 15,000 people demonstrated there that they will all become so-called terrorists and start suicide bombings. Killing of 80 has produced 200-fold more terrorists. This fact of increasing the number of terrorists by trying to kill them has been acknowledged by General Pervaiz Mussharraf, Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt and even by Rumsfeld, ex-US Defence Minister. Instead of killing, their problems should be solved and complaints and grieviances should be resolved, as for example, General Musharraf has rightly said a few months ago that if the problem of Palestine is settled to the satisfaction of the Palestinians, a lot of terrorism will subside automatically without any killings.
Use of blind and brute military force has always failed. Israel has failed to stop suicide bombings and rockets during the last 58 years, despite killing thousands of Arabs since its inception. All imperialist European powers and their military might failed against the freedom fighters in all countries of Asia and Africa that were colonized by them in 19th and 20th century. Super powers like America and Soviet Russia failed against the popular movements in Vietnam and Afghanistan. Even the US electorate has voted against Bush's policy of killing the so-called terrorists in Iraq by ousting the majority of his Republican Party in the US Congress, Senate and for State Governors and has voted for Democratic Party candidates. Bush had to accept the electorate mandate and oust his Defence Secretary Rumsfeld and consider new ideas to change his Iraq policy. How such a policy, which has failed everywhere, could be successful in Bajor, Pakistan?
While Musharraf was visiting the US some time ago, Bush had already declared that US forces would enter Pakistan whenever they would get any intellegence reports of Al-Quaida activity inside Pakistan without caring for any such permission from Pakistan government. That is what the Americans have done in Bajor and Pakistan had no choice but to accept responsibility and thus create a hateful image for the Pakistani forces. Pakistanis would have otherwise loved their own country's patriotic forces. Musharraf policies have earned a bad repute for Pakistan army, for which some senior retired Generals have publicly criticized his policies. Retired Pakistan army commander-in- chief Aslam Beg and some other Generals have rightly called it a result of wrong Pakistan government policies, as published in some foreign newspapers.
A lot of evidence and reports by foreign media shows that the claim of Pakistan army killing is baseless. They were all killed by the missiles of an American drone. This false claim by the Pakistan government has led to a suicide bombing in Dugai killing 43 Pakistan army soldiers.
Now we have no choice but to follow American dictates sheepishly. This compulsion has led our government to falsly claiming and taking responsibility of American actions against Pakistan's own interests. This is all the result of a sudden and abrupt U-turn in Pakistan's Afghan policy under a telephonic threat from President Bush to General Musharraf one night after 9/11 events in the US., which resulted in Pakistan supporting US aggression against Taliban in Afghanistan.
This is also because we do not have democracy in our country, otherwise our parliament could have said NO like that of Turkish parliament which rejected even an offer of 15 billion dollar American aid for allowing its forces to attack Iraq through the Turkish territory.
Subduing oneself to American threat and following a policy based on fear of a Super power is a proof of lack of faith in any superior power like God despite claiming oneself to be a Muslim and a beleiver in God. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran had the guts to say NO to American pressure before Afghanistan and Iraq wars. But our military regime lacked that courage and faith in a Supreme Being.
