Kashmiris mark Black India on Jan 26

The process of peace and reconciliation between India and Pakistan has a direct bearing on the lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir. Freedom leaders must urge the Indian state to restart the stalled peace process. Indo-Pakistan dialogue should result in freedom for Kashmiris and end to the military regime in the region.

Upon shedding power in Islamabad and after keeping a fairly prolonged silence and, former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf spoke his mind recently on several issues and has urged the United States to pressurize India and Pakistan to resolve all longstanding issues including the Kashmir dispute. Musharraf correctly says tow issues are the prime cause of Indian terrorism: Kashmir and grand Babri Mosque and only by resoling both issues to take Indian Muslims into confidence e India could put an end to the terrorism menace. Speaking at the Franklin Institute, Musharraf was of the view that Kashmir and other disputes between both archrivals were the root cause of extremism in the region. "Radicalism can never be abolished from the region until the resolution of Kashmir dispute and other differences between India and Pakistan," he said. Musharraf termed it legitimate and the need of hour to use the army in overcoming terrorism, but added that army operations alone cannot succeed in exterminating terrorism. The News quoted Musharraf as saying that the substantial and swift growth of extremism in India was due to violent incidents in Gujarat and the Babri Mosque tragedy. Extremism in India cannot be ignored, he added.

The divisions in Kashmir freedom movement has benefited Indian regime. However, as a mark of disobedience to Indian genocides and tortures and destructions in Jammu Kashmir, Kashmir, the nation under the continued Indian military occupation since 1947, observed a completed shutdown to mark the Indian Republic Day as a black day. The two faction of the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had called for a protest shutdown on 25 January to highlight sufferings in Kashmir under Indian military regime. People mostly preferred to stay indoors in response to the boycott call and persistent rains.

It is a known fact polls are "managed" almost every where to bring in a palrticular regime to rule and the recent Jk polls "done" by India with military support, therefore, failed to impress the world. But a new JK minister, thankful to Indian leaders for his induction into the JK cabinet along with a Hindu dy CM when in the entire Inidan nation no state has a Dy Musllim CM , let alone CM to Indian secular credit, said the December assembly elections in the state had been appreciated by everybody "in the world" and even the "militants" had started talking in terms of negotiated resolution of their problems. "This is a big change as everybody is fed up with violence. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in Jammu he hoped Indo-Pak relations improve and the entire region witness peace and development.

Take the terrorism route, not peaceful one, India tells Kashmiris.

India is deeply worried about the latest development in Kashmir when the freedom leaders sought obtain sovereignty by using peaceful means. But Indian terror forces are becoming restless on that peaceful account and provoke the Kashmiris Muslims to resume terrorist attacks.

On Feb 03, Pro-freedom leaders condemned the killing of 25-year-old, Fayaz Ahmed Mir obviously by Army in Lolab a day before. Fayaz was allegedly shot at point blank range by the troopers of 18 RR while he was about to enter his house at village Choti Zab Khorhama on Feb 01 Sunday evening. When Fayaz's body was brought to his native village, people raised anti-army slogans and demanded action against the troopers involved in the killing. In a statement issued here, Hurriyat (G) leader Syed Ali Geelani said, "Army is involved in silent genocide. They are trying to create an environment of fear to pressurize people not to express their aspirations." Geelani said the troopers are using "draconian" laws to kill and harass innocent civilians.

"The civil governments here are just for decoration. Actual power centre is the military. It is evident with one more killing". He also urged international humanitarian organizations to probe the killing. Hurriyat (M) also condemned the killing stating, "It has once again exposed human rights abuses prevalent here." Jamaat-e-Islami
Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson in a statement said, "Troopers are using relentless force against innocent civilians especially in rural areas." "All the draconian laws should be revoked," said the spokesperson, adding, "Case should be registered against the troopers and action should be taken against them."

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in a statement also condemned the killing alleging that troopers are on prowl to kill the innocent civilians here. Tehreek-i-Hurriyat
Jammu Kashmir (THJK) and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) also condemned the Senior SP's statement and the action of police against the youth in the old city.  "Youth of the old city are harassed by the police and CRPF just for the reason that they are involved in the peaceful resistance movement."

The statement of detaining the stone-pelters under the draconian PSA clarifies the fact that the so called elected members have the deadly plans for the young generation here. Afhadul Mujtaba is following the diktats." JKLF acting Chairman Bashir Ahmed Bhat said, "SSP Srinagar is taking refuge in the Islamic sayings just to justify Indian terror in
Kashmir and save the skin of police. Police is involved in serious crimes of harassment, arrest and manhandling of the youth. Besides, they save tainted officers involved in the heinous crimes. The police has no ethical ground to speak about Islam when they themselves are involved in the crimes against the humanity.

In the face of the growing terror menace from occupying India, the Kashmir freedom leaders are expected to put up a united freedom front, but unfortunately, the freedom movement has split into by groups equipping their armaments to hit each other and indirectly helping the Indian case in Jammu Kashmir. One fails to understand the logic behind the slow pace in unification of freedom groups in Kashmir.
