A Very Sad incident in Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan

Pakistan, since the day of its creation, has been under the control of people having sick mentality. Such people have never been loyal to their homeland and have been playing in the hands of foreign or local powers that always intend to destroy the system in one or the other way.

Education and quality education is one of the basic requirements for improvement of masses of this country. Govt. Universities are places where poor sector of our population can send their children for higher education. I have been criticizing the Musharraf policies as most of his actions went against the interest of the country. But one thing that was good and that deserve the appreciation, was the changes in education sector that I used to praise even in Musharraf era.

Unfortunately, this govt. started in very crucial circumstances and despite the seriousness of the economical and political issues the government is not making any effort for the stabilization in the country. Instead, it is making its all efforts to collect more and more money and control its political opposition. Some early steps taken by this government are not only foolish but stupid. The government may think that it has taken a positive step but the blind policy makers even can not see the bad effects caused by their actions.

One of such action taken by Zardari Govt. is the removal of ban from student unions in the universities and colleges. This lifting of ban has provided a way for political parties in the country to enter corrupt and blackguard elements in the university under the umbrella of studentship. In this effort Pakistan Peoples Party is on forefront that is funding and providing all relevant support to a student organization title "PSF-Peoples Student Federation".

In following lines I am going to mention a sad incident that is done by this student organization in a university.

Today on 11th feb, 2009, a group of students of PSF entered in the department when class work was in progress. They started misbehaving and abusing the faculty members who were taking their classes. They ordered the students to go out of class rooms and threatened the teachers who refused to leave their classes. When few teachers resisted, they pushed them out of rooms. They also ordered the departmental staff to get lost from department and when one of the staff member refused to leave, they beaten him and thrown him out of department. The students (PSF members) were holding the weapon and they took the students, who were studying, on gun point to the VC office. Looking at the situation, faculty members started calling the class representatives to avoid the situation. When students tried to leave the gathering, they stopped the male and female students in very awkward way.  In the meanwhile they also invited a team of journalists of Express TV that started broadcasting all the event live.

When the matter is brought into knowledge of Vice Chancellor, he called the concerned chairman and faculty members in his office. A discussion on the issue raised by the so called PSF students (who were not concerned at all with departmental problems) was in progress while students started raising slogans against the concerned chairman and started demanding his immediate removal from chairmanship. Vice Chancellor sent few teachers of concerned department to outside lawn where students were gathered and raising slogans for the fulfillment of their demands. The teachers along with university officers went out and asked them to nominate few of them for proper communication, the PSF students misbehaved with the teachers again (all the students who misbehaved and played the lead role were not the student of the concerned department) and one of them delivered a paper describing their demands. The paper was brought to the office again and was read, all the points raised by students in their written paper were not worth enough to considerable like changing the criteria of pass/fail etc. Because this criteria is implemented in nearly all universities in the country providing education under semester system.  The students continued raising their slogans against the chairman and asking for the removal of Dr. Aman Ullah Khan, for that they had no solid reason. They forced all the departmental students to sit in the crowd for about two hours. Considering the continued protest, VC again sent all the faculty members of concerned department to have a talk with the students and find out their real issues. Again the teachers and university officers tried to communicate with students. One of the teachers said to the student to disperse and a peaceful solution will be sought for their genuine demands. Hearing this, the students playing the lead role, abused that teacher first and later on they threat all the teachers to see the consequences. They used the insulting language for faculty members. Having got insulted, the teachers came back to VC office where VC told the teachers to go back to department. The administration assured the protesters for consideration of their demands and that the department will remain closed till their demands are met.

When teachers reached back to their department, it is brought to their knowledge that the department is locked and keys are snatched by one PSF student. It was again embarrassing for teachers that a group of students is threatening them and not letting them to enter in the department. After a long negotiation, the students belonging to PSF (not the students of department) allowed the teachers to enter the department with the condition that they will take belongings and get out of department on the earliest. The teachers entered the department and took their necessary things and came out of the department.

Now the department is closed for undefined period.

Being the faculty member of concerned department, I want to raise few questions.

·         Who let the corrupt and abandoned elements to enter in the university?

·         Who gave this much courage to these elements to insult and humiliate not a single faculty member but all of the faculty members of the department and beat the staff members?

·         Should we expect a quality education delivered by these teachers in future?

·         Are there any manners and honor left for teachers?

·         What kind of culture our govt. is trying to create in our educational institute by allowing these student organizations to work where it has been observed and proved that such unions play the role of student wing of their parent political parties?

·         Considering this kind of circumstances and experiencing them, should a competent teacher think of joining a public sector university?

My dear reader: Is not it shameful that we the faculty members are being insulted and humiliated by these degrading political agents. Are we bound to get order from such people before entering in the classrooms? Should we get permission from them before entering in the university?

I know one thing that a nation who does not respect its teacher, failure is the fate for it.

BUT WHO CARES,

An Old Student of BCS, BZU

Department of Computer Science

Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan.

what is the problem...
You try to do whatever you want to do or whatever you can do.
I love Dr Aman Ulaah and will keep doing so.
And VC, which i think he was the chairman of English department, because name look familiar to know, also know that what & who Dr Aman Ullah is, that is why in today's committee he didn't take any action against him.
You people Can change him by hook or crook, even then that is not a big deal but this you people will realize only after being into practical life.
Dear Sana, we should kill or break the balls of those teachers who asks girls what you have said.
I know in the department there are teachers, whose only aim is to keep fill their room with the girls and do dirty jokes etc.. but let me assure you none of that teacher is in a department because of Dr Aman's influence. By the time i was here i the department he always used to talk about those and wanted to remove them but removing some one fro government job is not an easy thing.
You people have every right to think and do, whatever you want to do, but i will suggest to you people that instead of crying and fighting, you should concentrate on your education. That is what i did, when i was in university. There were certain teachers, with whom i can't mix or feel free and they were after me always, but even then i manage to pass and get good marks. Because i was aware that they cant do anything, if i am right.
I am not forcing you for changing your views about Dr Aman, because what i have seen, you haven't.
Although no one is UN-changeable in the world but believe me if he is not there in the department, then department will be totally f***** up.
choice is yours

If these kind of fake news are going to be published on this website then I'm damn sure that no one atleast from Bahauddin Zakariya University is going to open this site again. I wonder why the administrator didn't gave us the opportunity to rate any article. If it was possible, surely this article would be rated as -10/10 (Negative ten by ten). I request the admin to validate this article or completely remove it. (so that the CS faculty doesn't get in trouble)

I don't know what the author wrote about PPP or PSF but I just know 1 thing, "The strike was started only by the CS students with fair and clean method and without hurting any teacher".

People like you, are the real problem maker. Because you people cant think of thing without benefit taking. I have already mentioned i am not a faculty teacher and i am not located in Pakistan as well. What i wrote is 100% correct and happened the same way.

PSF was involved and that is what i stated.
In the end, you are at your own to think whatever you want to think about me.

Publishing news on INTERNET is not a cyber crime because this is a news not a fake story and even if it is a fake story even then you cant charge me because i didn't name any one.

And why VC has to take action against me, if i am a teacher, because i haven't said any think against him or against the university. What i criticized is the action taken by PSF activists and students.

And even then if he wants to take any action let them take, i will happily want to fact the music.
You take care and try to see things without loss and gain.

Replied by(Noman) Replied on (16/Feb/2009)

As i have told you in my previous replies, i am not located inside Pakistan anymore, so when i got this news i inquired, and there only i drafted the article. As my sources were among faculty teachers as well, that is why i put faculty Member. But as i am not a faculty member myself, and people like you may be have taken it other way round, so i edited the article and modified that line.
From some faculty member only i came to know about the weapons used in the episode.
And yes your senior has told u the right thing about the pain Dr Aman Ullah has taken and may be you are also somewhat right about the humiliation part of the thing because not all students can bear it and i am also partially agree with you on this certain point because some time my best friends also used to get pissed off due to this. But let me ell u one thing he is very good at heart and whatever he said or do is nothing personal and if you try to take all that only at professional level then you may realize it is not a big deal.
Let me tell you one more thing, once you get out of university into real world then more then what he has done to you, you will be facing and bearing in the office from your seniors and then may be you will realize that Dr Aman has also taught you how to live and cope with unwanted people and unwanted situations.
I myself was among one of the most notorious student, computer science department may have seen yet and still after 11 years, people know and recognize me there, may be if you ask Akram, he will tell you about me. We used to play around with teachers, shouting and hooting every thing, but we try to take and keep all that to certain level and that is i want from you and other students there.

So Mr. Noman!! Your actions are enough to reflect that you're a true student of Dr. Aman Ullah i.e. So quitely you've replaced the sentence "Faculty Member" with "An Old Student from first BCS(Hons) batch 1997". Alas! You may have asked Dr. Aman Ullah," Oh sir!!! I think we should replace the sentence otherwise the faculty can get in real trouble!" LOL!!!!

Everyone got his/her positive points as well as negative points.I didn't knew about his good things till yesterday night when one of my seniors praised Dr. Aman Ullah. I was really shocked and demotivated. I thought what we have done is a big sin. How much painful it would be to be taken out of the place which you've build by your ownr hands. Believe me... I even cried. But after thinking a lot. I asked myself again... Was Dr. Aman Ullah fair with the students?

No matter how much he worked for the Department but I know one thing that he wasn't good with the students. From the day of my admission to this point, I've only heared this,

"BZU, where students come first".

But you know what? This is not aplicable in CS Department. and thats the reason why the CS students raised their voices against him.

Most of the people think that it was a political strike but its not true. The truth may be bitter, but it must be told. Those were all CS students.

The only thing which irritates me the most is when people like Sajid try to mix us (CS students) with the PSF. I hate PSF more than any person on Earth. We are not accountable for what PSF have done in front of Umer Hall or Ali Hall.

We still respect Dr. Aman Ullah. But sorry to say, we cannot tolerate humiliation because humiliated students doesn't build character. Humiliation is a terrible technique to use as a teacher. Students will either be so cowed that they will never feel confident in the classroom, so hurt that they will not trust the teacher ever again, or so upset that they can turn to disruptive methods of retaliation.

Finally, Noman plz tell us who told you that the students were using weapons in the strike?

It is interesting to read the comments of MR. Make_BZU_Better. I have only few questions

Who did firing infront of Abu Bakar Hall on Saturday, 14th Feb, 2009. I was present there and firing continued for 5-6 minutes.

Why PSF students fought in Ali Hostel and 6-8 are injured and are in hospital?

Who insulted the lecturer of Engineering College for which they made protest?

Who were those students that attacked on vehical of stall holder just one day before JOB FAIR.

If you are new to scene, please wait and see, things will be before you. I hope you will stay at campus with open eyes.

Dear Mr make_BZU_better
just let me tell you few things to make records straight
1-I am not a faculty member of BZU
2-I don't live inside the Pakistan
3-I am not relative of Dr Aman Ullah Khan
4-I don't have to take any advantage from him

so it means whatever i said was and is from bottom of my heart.

He is really a man, to find now a days, is next to impossible.
When i was his student, we also face difficult problem with him, i myself got 40 marks in C language and many of my best friends got failed. Humiliation in class, some what was daily routine, but we ere mature enough to understand that it is/was for our good only.
He is strict person, and for man of principle, it was/is acceptable.
May be after leaving the university only you will realize this thing.
He stayed in university from last so many years despite having very big offers from all over world, i knew.
What ever computer science department is at the moment, it is all because of him only after Allah.
My & other classes and he personally stayed late night there in campus and prepare every lab. he done cabling and many other stuff from his hand only in the lab.
Whatever he has done for the campus, you may wont recognize at the moment, because you belong to that class, who will stand against their parents if they are not going according to your way or if they are not letting you go, your way.
And just to tell you one thing in the end, every one knows what is the mental attitude and caliber of PSF is, if they are involved in any incident then every one can imagine that what would have been happened there.
In the end just one liner for you

You think Aman Ullah was great! Right? Ask the students of the CS Department. or simply ask it from somewhere else. This strike was initiated by the department's students against their so called Chairman, Dr Aman Ullah because he doesn't care about us. This department is operating because of our feeses!!! DAMN IT!!!! Because of our parent's sacrifices!!

You lied so much!
1) No weapons were used.
2) It was not initiated by PSF but by the students of Computer Science Department.
3) Ok assume if PSF was supporting us then why didn't they used their slogan i.e. "Jiye Bhutto" (Can't believe it? Watch the video from the TV News channel again)
4) No one miss-behaved with the teachers.

From reading this article, I can surely say that,

1) The Chairman has written this article.
2) or maybe charmain's very close faculty member on for the sake of TC!!!
3) The author of this article is dumb.

I'm the student of CS Department and I'm proud that we have brought this big change! and shame on you for posting this fake story!

This is ever worst event occurred in BZ University.

Teacher is the father of nation, just because of those teachers thousands of students are living a respectable life.

I will recommend that the students shall come forward and cooperate with the faculty members. Those few cruel people who are definitely the external elements and can not be the part of any of student federation shall be thrown out of the university boundary.

The students who really respect their teachers shall call inter departmental meeting and identify those elements who are the external bodies. Then students shall directly report to Vice-Chancellor. Vice-Chancellor shall keep that information confidential and submit FIR in the police station and next time such external elements shall not be allowed to enter in university premises.

Being the student of department and BZ University, it is very shameful for us that a person who spent his time in this university when he was able to earn lot more in industry and in academia. He founded the department and now such ill mannered political guys are trying to humiliate him. This is not only shameful but alarming for other faculty members also that if today he is being humiliated, tomorrow other will be treated in same way. I find it very strange now that if some student gets failed, his relative come to the department and directly threat the teachers to see the consequences. Is it lawlessness in the country or shamelessness of parents/guradians of students who never pay attention that what their loved ones are doing in the institute. University is a serious place of study but with execuse, i want to say that our present student fellows consider it as a dating place where study is of secondary importance. And offcourse our so called faculty members are also deeply involved in creating such situation where they get the chance to pressurize the right persons to get their illegal demands approved. Inshort it is very difficult now to perform and do a quality work in public sector organization like BZU.

I know Dr Aman Ullah Khan personally and i am his student and i got fell in love with him. He is man of principles and dignity. I can imagine the situation without being there. I can see that some one he failed despite the political pressure and that guy bring his men out there to get this thing over turned. But let me tell you one thing, Aman Ullah khan, the man i know will never surrender to pressure. He will quit and that will be a big loss for the university and the country not for him of course. Because right now he has plenty of ten times bigger salary offers in his pocket. But this incident is a real shameful incident and shouldn't happen in a university which is among one of the best and biggest in Asia and in a department which is the biggest IT department of Pakistan.
I hope Prime Minister will show extra interest and will take extra measurements to solve this issue as he is from the same city as well and those culprits are from his party as well.
