Italy G-8: Poverty of Principles and Fragile Gimmicks-IV

IV - Global Economy, GST terror, G8 Plus and the Rest

Extremely terror-oriented military regimes like USA , UK , Israel and India  play havoc in the lives of weak nations of the globe and, especially, the island nations are at the losing end now because of the fast moving, unpredictable global warming ill-effects of reckless economic drives.  Wealthy nations, however, worried only about speedy economy plus high profits, approach emissions as a normal routine matter to be dealt with only by the developing world. The blame game keeps the G-8 plus bosses happy so far. A major question remains unanswered as to why the Chinese chief Hu hurriedly left the summit citing the trouble in China . Was it to show his responsibility for his nation when massacre of Muslims took place in a today's Chinese province or something else?

In order to justify the relevance of notorious NATO, among other energy reasons, the US led terror organization unleashed terror wars in Islamic world resulting  n the atmospheric hazards, but the western strategists underplay the terrifying ill-effects of terror wars on the climate change.  One fails to comprehend the logic behind the western support for the syndicate of GST networks including secret terror camps around the world led by Pentagon-CIA to aggravate the emissions issue. Since the main thrust of G8 is trade, one area where a breakthrough is possible is trade. A draft communiqué suggested the G8 and "G5" developing nations would agree to conclude the stalled Doha round of trade talks in 2010.  Launched in 2001 to help poor nations prosper through trade, the Doha talks have stumbled on proposed tariff and subsidy cuts.

During last years, environmentalists have convinced themselves that the main obstacle to their grand designs to recalibrate the Earth's thermostat was a callow U.S. president Bush unwilling to lead America and the rest of the world. So much so, President Obama’s call to action at summit in Italy yielded little more than polite applause. NATO the agenda of illegal invasion of Islamic Iran was more important than addressing the war effects on climate. G8’s casual call to never ever let the Earth's temperature rise two degrees centigrade from pre-industrial levels prelude to the real horse-trading over emissions cuts that will begin in Copenhagen, Denmark, meeting this December.

Italy’s earthquake zone L’aquila, which became alive with loud noises made by big powers is once again silent now - just as the global warming issue is. A few big initiatives were expected as the Italy G20 tasked with formulating a regulatory response to the crisis meets in September in Pittsburgh after an April summit in London . This is a negotiation after all. None is as serious about follow-up actions after the photo sessions and high dinners hosted there. Wasting huge global resources on such big summits, the big leaders have so far achieved nothing. But the G8 results indicate how difficult it will be to craft a new climate change treaty by December, when nations from around the world will gather in Copenhagen , Denmark , to negotiate a successor to the 1987 Kyoto protocol, which expires in 2012. Countries like China and India - the next generation of big polluters after the USA- want the industrial countries to commit to reducing carbon emissions by 40 percent over the next decade before they commit to any reductions of their own. Without that commitment from the G-8, they refused to make any targets of their own.

Today world is facing acute economic, price-rise, anti-Islamic problems. Capitalism characterizing the G-8 plus nations cannot - and would not - allow poor nations to become rich; they only let rich become richer. The summit which wanted to reduce food prices alone cost over $600 million - the annual budget of the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is $400 million. Proposals to challenge hunger have become a common feature of international conferences since the 2008 food crisis. The 83% increase in food prices between 2005 and 2008 led to a massive surge in global hunger. Past policies of the group have favoured free trade in food and agricultural commodities. However, rich countries subsidize and protect their domestic agriculture and they dominate food prices on the global market. These policies have harmed developing countries, creating food dependency and deepened hunger. The number of hungry in 2008 increased from 854 million to 963 million in the space of a year. The number of hungry reached a historic high in 2009, with 1.02 billion people - one-sixth of humanity - going hungry every day. Despite commitments, pledges, and grandiose communiqués by rich donor nations to challenge hunger at numerous international summits, world hunger persists. The problem lies in the fallacious explanations for the food crisis, and in the promotion of market and technology-based solutions to the problem.

However, the G-8 climate talks have divided rich and poor countries and favored rich guys. The G8 failed to get China and India to accept the goal of halving emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon correctly observed on 10 Aug the policies that they have stated so far are “not enough, not sufficient enough.  Ban said progress could still be made before talks on a new U.N. climate change treaty in Copenhagen in December. It's no surprise if developing nations aren't rushing in to sign up for new goals and targets right away. World must work according to the science. This is politically and morally imperative and a historic responsibility for the leaders for the future of humanity, even for the future of planet Earth.

Global recessions and emissions are the direct consequences of the NATO terror war destroying Islamic world and Muslims creating devastating environmental pollution causing climate change quicker. U.N. supremo Ban Ki-moon reiterated that climate change is the greatest challenge facing a world beset by crises and called on governments to reach a deal on the environment at a meeting in Denmark later this year. Ban said the world has to halt the global rise in greenhouse gas emissions “if we are to avoid catastrophic consequences for people and the planet.” It is, simply, the greatest collective challenge we face as a human family or civilization.

While economic recovery campaigns continue to occupy the western powers in the post Italy G-8, for obvious reasons, climate change issue is being sidelined. Recent figures show a few economies coming out of recession, including Japan , Germany , France and Hong Kong , a sign the global slowdown is easing. Japan has come out of recession after its economy grew by 0.9% in the April-to-June quarter. Japan is heavily reliant on its exports. Government stimulus measures totaling $260bn (£159bn) helped to boost the economy, including cash handouts and subsidies to buy energy-efficient cars and home appliances. While it said conditions in the Japanese economy had stopped worsening, it warned that unemployment would stay high and consumer spending low. Last month, the bank forecast that Japan 's economy would shrink by 3.4% in the 12 months to 31 March 2010.

Double-talks and double-standards are the hallmark drill of G8 just as much as the UNSC and the US-led West. Israel ’s nukes are is ok for them, but Iranian nuclear ambitions are too bad for them. The G-8 called on the Iranian government to respect the democratic rights of its people and to clarify the nature of its nuclear program. The members sharply criticized North Korea for conducting another nuclear weapons test and urged Pyongyang to rejoin the Six-Party Talks. G8 endorsed a range of additional nonproliferation and counterterrorism measures, but could not identify Global state terrorism, perpetrated by US-led Western capitalist Axis powers for controlling Islamic world and its energy resources, as the most serious threat to mankind. When G8 worried about the unnecessary “ Iran crisis”, it could not detect the western hands in the failed coup in Tehran . The big guys also failed to mention the freedom struggles and foreign holocausts in Islamic world, in Palestine , Pakistan , Afghanistan , Iraq and Kashmir . Global state terrorism, encouraged by the so-called western “democracies”, aptly followed some of the third world nations like India and Israel , remains the key cause of all problems in the world today.

Many argue the world should concentrate on economic profits right now and leave the climate issue for the time being. The world may have far more immediate and scarier problems than climate change to address right now, but the UN and other relevant bodies must address the climate issue on priority basis, before the island nations submerge into the seas. West is keen to take full control of the energy resources of the Islamic world and hence US-led terror wars are, on some fictitious pretexts, still going on. Possibly, Islamic economics could be tired by all western powers to ward off recession, rising prices and persistent global hunger crisis, by creating efficient agricultural and food markets. Prevention, it is said, is much better than cure! However, the Bushdom rogues escaped the climate challenge by the terror wars and none seems to be keen to punish them while rectifying the climatic disorders.

The G-8 Plus leaders should reach consensus on the midterm binding goals of cutting greenhouse emission, make he top polluters like USA, China and India, commit themselves to a credible response and stop asking the weak developing nations to act first as an excuse for their not committing to the binding goals. It looks perfectly understandable for developing countries to refuse to commit to reduction targets when they have no idea how they're going to pay for their crimes or what industrialized countries are going to commit to in the short term to save the island nations.  But the starting gun has sounded and everyone knows they need to go home and start thinking seriously about what they can bring to the table. G8 plus leaders have to be ready with time bound emission control mechanism when they come to Copenhagen , Denmark in December.

Blame game is OK perhaps on domestic front, but it is untenable in international arena. Humanity is under serious threats form the rich, military economies on many accounts, including GST and emissions. Hopefully, the next G-Summit in Copenhagen would come out with resolute solutions for the climatic and economic ailments of the world and save the weak as well as island nations. Or, will that also be routine summit to meet old and new friends and secretly decide only about the usual capitalist agendas?
