Ukraine Crisis:  Crimea  joins Russia! West suspends military activities with Russia!

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Perils of imperialism and capitalism bind the USA and Canada for years now. So much so, Canada does not decide anything on foreign front without consulting Washington. Not just that Canada always tries to prove it is very much a junior partner of the existing supper power. In fact even when  Britain, possibly the closest ally of USA,  abstained from voting the UN resolution pawing way for the Palestine statehood, Canada  just  went with USA and Israel in first blocking the  vote, but when they failed, in defeating the vote, however Palestine won the vote w overwhelmingly.

If , however, Canadians asked  to comment on their government’s attitude towards Palestine, perhaps most of them would condemn it. In terrocracies, the regimes function without the direct consent of people. The rulers promote the self-interests and of  imperialism. .

Washington said the Pentagon has put on hold all exercises and other programs between the U.S. and Russia "in light of recent events in Ukraine. The USA has also suspended trade talks with Moscow, and President Obama said his administration was considering a series of further economic and diplomatic measures but without providing any details. .

A strong ally of USA,  Canada has quickly joined the US road and suspended all planned bilateral activities with the Russian military.  following a similar move by the U.S. over Moscow's deployment of troops in Ukraine. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement that he had directed that, effective immediately, all planned bilateral activities between the Canadian Armed Forces and the military of the Russian Federation be suspended until further orders.

The canceled activities include Vigilant Eagle, a counterterrorism exercise involving the Russian Air Force and the North American Aerospace Defense Command of the USA and Canada, as well as all scheduled meetings. "We continue to view the situation in Ukraine with the gravest concern and will continue to review our relations with President Putin's government accordingly," Harper said.

Now that Crimea, now a part of Ukraine, has passed a referendum to join Russian federation,  big power confrontation is not likely to subside in the near future, at least.

Crimea's parliament voted to join Russia on 06th March and its Moscow-backed government set a referendum for March 16. Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Askyonov said all state property would be nationalized, the Russian ruble adopted as the new currency, and all Ukrainian troops forced to either leave Crimea or surrender to the new government once the decision is finalized.

Crimean authorities said they were open to having international observers monitor the March 16 referendum.  The news of Crimea's potential return to Russia has been well-received in Ukraine's pro-Russian organizations, but Kiev and the international community have begun questioning the referendum's legitimacy.

Ukrainian PM Arseny Yatsenyuk, who was in Brussels for talks with EU leaders, said that a referendum in Crimea was illegitimate and that the republic "is, was and will be an integral part of Ukraine."

Representatives of other Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine expect Crimea to serve as a model for seeking self-determination.

As Crimea has already begun preparing for its potential return to Russia and would be making its case for adopting the ruble, Russian president Putin welcomed the Crimea's decision to join Russia.
