Why is EU annoyed about Kremlin’s fantasy called the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU)?

-Dr. Abdul Ruff

_____________

A major concern of both USA and EU in international politics is to deny Russia the privilege of upper-hand control facility in any manner by allowing it to recreate somehow the former Soviet state that would weaken the NATO and EU in the long run.  NATO was established
by USA to destabilize the Soviet Union and it achieved that objective fairly easily and Americans got back their traditional military and political supremacy. .

The Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), floated by Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia officially in 2015 that aimed at the revival of Soviet economic system has generated headline news and head ache for USA that  these years feel relaxed as there Is not real threat from Russia. .

The EEU initiative, however, appears to be a failure as Moscow hoped to remake former Soviet  state from the EEU as a trade bloc by  bringing  all nations back together stands at the depot itself,   unable to begin a start.

Several unsuccessful early attempts toward that goal included the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), now a largely defunct conglomerate of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.  USA, NATO and EU stand between Russia and other nations, making the reunion almost impossible once again.

For two decades now, Russia has not made any real headway in its firm attempt as USA is putting spanner into the wheels of all former Soviet republics to block the reunion.  An attempt in 2010 by Moscow to produce a customs union with Belarus and Kazakhstan created the seeds for the eventual creation of the EEU. Moscow hopes that the EEU organization’s economic agenda would ultimately expand to cover political integration as well, leading to the establishment of a sort of Soviet state. .

USA and EU, as their usual strategy of criticizing what Russia does or does not, has called new Kremlin effort to Sovietization of former Soviet republics as an illusion. They also see Putin’s love for former Soviet system unconvincing and return of mighty Soviet state  indeed worries the West more than terrorism which is just play to food the Arab world.

The West opposes the Russian idea of universally beneficial integration on equal terms as a mere façade to make Russian authority stronger. They argue that gross economic disparities among the group’s members would work in Russia’s favor, with other countries getting secondary roles.   Russia, they say, would continue to dominate the EEU, representing about three-fourths of its total economic weight.   Before the ruble’s collapse in December, Russia accounted for 87 percent of the union’s total GDP and 83 percent of its population. By comparison, Germany, the EU’s largest economy, represents only about 15.8 percent of its GDP and just six percent of its population.

USA and EU fear a strong Eurasian Union with Russia gaining the most would render EU weak while Moscow would become dominant in diplomatic maneuvers, reaping economic advantages.

Eventually both EU and NATO would lose many East European nations. That exactly is the main worry of both USA and EU. .
