Govt unlikely to pursue NRO cases (The Nation’s report)

Statement:     ISLAMABAD – Giving tacit impression of Government’s intention of not pursuing the issue of Swiss cases, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the Swiss government has conveyed to Pakistan that they cannot proceed with the cases which the Government of Pakistan itself can’t initiate in the country.

Comments:   When the Supreme Court has undertook the responsibility of monitoring the proceedings of the NRO cases then no one should have doubt that the apex Court is not helpless. When the Swiss Government initiated the proceedings then why it ceased them on a simple letter from an Attorney General of Pakistan? It is up to the Supreme Court to show muscles to the Swiss Government by handling the cases stopped under the notorious ordinance inside and outside the Country.

Statement:     Talking to media persons after attending interfaith harmony programme arranged here at a local hotel by Ministry of Minorities Affairs on Friday evening, Prime Minister Gilani said his Government has nothing to do with the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), as neither they had introduced it nor they had supported it.

Comments:   The Prime Minister is talking about the matter as if someone else abroad has been benefited from the ordinance. More than 8000 cases were stopped under this ordinance and still the Prime Minister shows that he has nothing to do with the NRO. When this ordinance was not beneficial to some persons then why applications were given to the Courts for stopping the proceedings. Use of NRO and denial of its efficacy are two contradictory statements. It was Supreme Court which declared the NRO against the Constitution otherwise the accused persons were using it as a magic wand to wipe off all their accusations against them. The nation has got sufficient maturity and now no one put mud in their eyes.

Statement:     To a question he said that they would draw future course of action in consultation with the coalition partners after seeing the detailed judgement of Supreme Court of Pakistan in NRO case. He said that people and media knew that PPP Government had not introduced this ordinance but ironically no one was asking those who had introduced it. He suggested that former PM Shaukat Aziz and his cabinet should be asked about the NRO.

Comments:    Very sad Prime Minister. You are comparing yourself with Shaukat Aziz. He was the hand picked Prime Minister of General Musharraf while you are the unanimously elected Prime  Minister of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Why we should ask the people to whom the nation has badly rejected in the 2008 election. People voted you and your allied people only for this reason that Shaukat Aziz had issued this NRO and had also created many problems for this nation which this nation would need decades to solve. When your party head believes that democracy is the best revenge, so this nation also believes in this slogan. It is not guilt of a person when he ask you about your commitment on the apex Court’s judgment. Please pacify the unrest regarding this matter.

Statement:     To a question, he said that they would decide about the fate of NRO beneficiaries after going through the detailed judgement of apex court in the case.
About the wrongly inclusion of the name of Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar in ECL and his barring from proceeding to China, Premier Gilani termed it a gross mistake for which he had suspended the Federal Interior Secretary and other officials.

Comments:   Your discriminatory treatment is evident from this. How many officers you have suspended on the issues of the people of Pakistan? The unrest in this Country is this that when the interests of a big and that of a small come in clash then the big one is justified. People saw how the issue of sugar was handled in this Country. How the interests of the sugar barons were safeguarded. How they were enabled to suck the blood of the people despite the orders from the Supreme Court to the contrary.

Statement:     To a question about the writing off billions of rupees loans, the PM said the issue of these loans had been figuring in media since 1986 and questioned why the media and other people hadn’t raised these issues during the dictatorial regime.

Comments:   Very strange! You and your party often talk about the reopening of the Z. A. Bhutto case which had been decided in 1979 and when the media or others talk about the writing off of loans cases you are preventing them and putting before them questions. This is the point that the people often dislike the politicians that when they are in oppositions, they promise with nation for removing every injustice but when they occupy certain they become deaf and blind.

Statement:     To a question, he said the ministries and divisions are being merged as part of the government’s austerity drive and the merger of Parliamentary Affairs Ministry in Law and Justice was part of that move.

Comments:    Bravo! Your every good act shall be appreciated and the nation shall enhance cooperation with you because it is the sign of a true Muslim that when he sees a good act he appreciate while condemn every bad act regardless of the status and position of the wrongdoer because the wrongdoer has no personality and status in the society. Generally, people like good one and abhor bad one.

Statement:     To another question, the PM said that President Zardari had gone through the hardships of incarceration for well over 12 years for the crime he had never committed.

Comments:    This is your point of view/judgment. The nation wishes that he should get judgment from this independent judiciary about his innocence. You cannot influence the opinion of any one on this issue. Every one considers his father/son innocent but still gets judgment of a Judge of a Court about his innocence. If he is clean then he should not step down but waive his immunity and face the trial in the Court. It will be a big blow to those who brought fabricated and concocted cases against him. Instead the Court would initiate proceedings against those who brought baseless cases because the law is clear that when a person falsely accused a person and failed to prove his charge, he should be prosecuted. The President should explain his position on amassing so huge wealth in the Country and abroad. People resent the discriminatory treatment. When an ordinary person is asked to explain his position about the wealth then why not President Zardari? The wealth he has accumulated not as President Zardari but as the husband of Benazir Bhutto and son of Hakim Ali Zardari. The cases against him were instituted in the Courts when he was not President. The people would be right to assume that Zardari came to the post of President of Pakistan just to get the immunity to himself from any Court’s action and exonerate himself of any liability. Let the innocent be brave and face trial while guilty are always cowards and shun the Criminal proceedings.

Statement:     He made it clear that all the cases instituted against PPP leaders were politically motivated. He further said that it was admitted in the Charter of Democracy that the cases against PPP central leadership were politically motivated and concocted.

Comments:   It will be very easy for the Courts to handle such concocted and politically motivated cases. Let President Zardari should trust the Courts of this Country as well as those of foreign Countries. Charter of Democracy can be a book from the heaven for the PPP and PML(N) but not for the people of Pakistan nor the mere admittance of a person can be regarded as a Court’s ruling. It means that the Charter of Democracy has made the work of Court easier by punishing those who have spoiled the nation’s wealth on prosecution of these false cases. The apex Court has much experience in handling the culprits and innocents and they know how the culprits make excuses when the hand of law reaches to their neck.

Statement:     He recalled that at the time of instituting of these politically motivated cases, some 95 percent people had joined the then regime under a dictator while the genuine PPP leadership had faced these cases even in the then courts and suffered in jails for the crimes they had never committed.

Comments:   Dear Prime Minister, your full name also contains “Yusuf” like the name of Prophet “Yusuf” (Joseph) who in the ancient time purged himself before coming out of jail of the King. He proved his innocence because allegation of any charge is virulent to the personality of any one. A person should live in the society free of any charge or accusation. Please help the NRO beneficiaries by enabling them to face the Courts and to punish those who have brought baseless cases.

Statement:     To a question, the Prime Minister said that the Christians living in shanty colonies in the Federal Capital would be allotted plots and their colonies would be established. He further said that hate words against Christian community should be discouraged and they would be provided with all facilities.

Comments:   When a person accepts the law of Pakistan, I consider him as an individual of Pakistan and a citizen of Pakistan, not as Christian, Hindu and Muslim etc. He has equal rights as are available to others. I love the Non-Muslims because that their forefathers knew that Pakistan would be a Muslim State based on Ideology of Islam but still they preferred to live here fully trusting our forefathers and their succeeding generations that in this State their every right would be fully protected. Accordingly, I request you to give them more and “do more” for them because their forefathers had trusted our honesty, faithfulness and dutifulness towards the oppressed and dejected Classes. I am not saying on the reasons that many Muslims are living abroad. I am saying so because I consider myself under obligation to protect any weak and helpless from the wrath of an influential one and also to help to those who have undertaken this job of protection.
