Immanuel Kant, the 18th century German philosopher had envisioned “Perpetual Peace”, the doctrine that gave war riddled Europeans much needed hope and optimism for peace making and conflict management. C.E.M. Joad (Guide to Modern Wickedness), enlists divergent facets of evil thinking and minds that governed the Europeans to kill each other during and preceding the two World Wars. After prolonged

Dr Rehman Malik broke the news in a hasty press briefing in London on Nov 3 that that recent Memorandum of Understanding between Pakistan and the United Kingdom on extradition does not cover those Pakistanis living legally in Britain. Well of course, settled immigrants have no worries, it’s those who are stuck in the backlog who are crying for help. But the same night, Chief Inspector, and indepen

Leaders create leaders. There are no “people-oriented” proactive leaders at the global theatre of politics sensitive to humanitarian thinking and actions and striving to make rational policies and decisions to lead the besieged humanity out of the man-made catastrophic wars of deaths and destruction engulfed in the 21st century age of reason. The contemporary world is coerced to egoistic political

After failed operation in Marjah, talk of an operation in Kandahar gained currency. It was asserted that victory in Kandahar would break the back of Taliban and would render them fragile. Media hype was deliberately created to demoralize the militants. It was presumed that successful culmination of Operation Dragon Strike would provide much needed satisfaction and sense of moral ascendancy to the

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Saturday defended the unauthorised release of 400,000 classified US military documents on the war in Iraq, saying they revealed the "truth" about the conflict. The mass of documents from 2004 to 2009 offer a grim snapshot of the conflict, especially of the abuse of Iraqi civilians by Iraqi security forces.

In order to end the prolonged Afghan war, secret talks have been going on between Karazai Government and Taliban, while making use of formal and informal channels. Recently, President Karazai himself confirmed these contacts. He said in an interview that, “We have been talking to the Taliban as countryman to countryman, and ---not as a regular official contact with the Taliban with a fixed address

War on terror in Afghanistan has entered the tenth year and still the end doesn’t seem in sight. The tenth year has however brought a significant change in the thinking of USA, which has now started talking of options other than use of force and is apparently keen to end the war. One of the reasons of this change in thinking is the failure of coalition forces to defeat Al-Qaeda and Taliban.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are natural allies due to geographic contiguity, common religion, historical and cultural ties, ethnic and blood relations. Both are inter-dependent upon each other. Afghanistan being landlocked had remained almost wholly dependent upon Pakistan. Although recent construction of a road by India linking Afghanistan with Iran at Port Chahbahar has given Afghanistan an additio
